I have never been one to write down New Year’s resolution. Do not get me wrong I am not opposed to people writing down what they want to achieve, research has proven that people who commit their actions to paper are more likely to stay the cause and enact them.
“Start by doing what's
necessary;
Then do what's possible; and
Suddenly you are doing the impossible”
~Francis of Assisi~
It’s just that each time I set out to do something with pomp and splendor I often find myself digressing, giving up or becoming too busy to do it in the end. While this does not reflect on my work life it is a true reflection of my social life and efforts of personal development, so I have over the years learnt to just do what I want or think is best instead of procrastinating it.
So instead of having goals to achieve I will go the way of declaration. According to the dictionary the word declaration means a proclamation or a formal empathic statement.
“All you need is the plan,
the road map, and the courage to press on to your destination.”
~ Earl Nightingale ~
I am choosing to make a personal declaration when they year is still young because I know there will be times when the going won’t be so smooth, when I will be depressed, when I will need motivation and moments when I will be anxious and afraid needing to draw from within me the inner courage.
“When you get into a tight
place and everything goes against you,
Till it seems as though you could not hang on
a minute longer,
Never give up then,
For that is just the place and time that the
tide will turn.
~Harriet Beecher Stowe~
I am choosing to write a declaration that will give me the energy to rise and sustain me throughout the year. A statement that will provide me with the life balance that I need and help me focus on all that I set to achieve.
Here goes:
This year I shall not be afraid to go the unpopular path. I shall base my decisions solely on my principles and values. I will not be afraid to say no when to things and events that will not add to my purpose or break my integrity. I will work towards doing more of the things I love and slowing time to share moments with my family and loved ones. I will in every situation remember to give thanks overcoming the challenges that come by. I will look to positively impact everyone who comes into my life and inspire greatness in any way that I can. At the end of the day I will remember despite the situation or the circumstance, I contribute value just by being here.
